| On June 20-25, 2000, Team Bergamo competed in the IMAC
DIVISION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Team consisted of Master
Ralph Bergamo 6th, Drew Serrano 4th, Master Raphael Velez
5th, Raymond Barquin 11th, Vincent Milo 1st,
Clinton Murphy 1st, (all black belt), Ted Grieder, brown belt, Colin
Thompson brown belt, Eric Leigh brown belt (teen), Scott Casolo purple belt,
Seth Murphy purple belt, Sean Anderson purple belt (youth), and Bob Anderson
gold belt. |
The IMAC DIVISION WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP tournament housed some 1,500 competitors.
The competition was fierce, but Team Bergamo was successful for the 2nd
year in a row. Master Bergamo regained his world title in the self-defense
division, with a first place.
Mr. Drew Serrano secured 1st place in the breaking division, 4th
place in self defense, and 4th place in fighting, followed closely by
Clinton Murphy 2nd place in breaking and Vincent Milo 4th
place in breaking. Ted Grieder finished 1st in the under black belt
breaking division, followed by Bob Anderson, 2nd place and Scott
Casolo, 3rd place. |

The first
year that Team Bergamo competed In the 17 and under division, Eric Leigh won a
first place in self-defense and a 3
rd place in breaking. Sean
Anderson (10 years old) took a 2
nd place in breaking and a 5
th
place in self-defense.
The Breaking Division allows the competitor to demonstrate his or her skill in
breaking wood, concrete, glass, and coconuts. The competitor usually will have
several layers of breaking material to penetrate and break.
The Self
Defense Division tests the contestant's ability to defend against against
multiple open handed and armed attackers. The defender must successfully disarm
and subdue the simultaneous attacks that come at him from all directions.
The Fighting
Division tests the contestant's ability to defend against one other individual
under a point system. This division is full-contact to all body areas. A
competitor may have to fight several times to place.
