WTF: Lethwei, Muay Thai, KO and team MMA

It’s no secret that the last week has been very bad, not good for the world. So with that in mind, hopefully we can inject some levity from the wild, wide world of sport into your day. We have a dose of traditional martial arts at your disposal, lethwei madness, team MMA and even a healthy dose of slap fights for your entertainment. So, let’s look at some unorthodox combat highlights!

We’re going to cut to the chase where we usually start, our guy Jerry at Fight Commentary Breakdowns.

In the tradition of having more traditional martial arts practitioners embracing other styles or more modern MMA, we have a pair of fights starting with a taekwondo practitioner in a Muay Thai sparring session. And guess what? It’s quite good. It’s just sparring, it doesn’t get intense, but there’s good technique throughout.

Later in the video, Wing Chun specialist Qi La La takes on a kickboxer…and it doesn’t sit well with him. Hey, he tried. Have to respect that.

Then we have MMA team fights that turn into utter chaos, as they all do:

Look, I have to be blunt here and admit that teamfights aren’t something I personally care about. It doesn’t appeal to me, it’s not my thing. But it’s still MMA related and there’s an appetite for it. Also, as someone who doesn’t usually enjoy these fights, this set of fights isn’t too bad.

Next, some highlights courtesy of Radikal Videos. It’s a compilation of Muay Thai and Lethwei finishes that have to be seen to be believed.

Also, here’s a collection of nothing but Muay Thai elbows with some masters at work, courtesy of Muay Thai Scholar:

Then we have YDA Channel, an absolute treasure trove when it comes to Lethwei. Here’s a tough match that, as usual, brings out the courage and tenacity these competitors need to succeed.

Here are more highlights from the Tel Aviv Grand Slam, with a showcase of Belgian talent Mathias Casse. This is courtesy of Judo Highlights, and this guy is seriously impressive to watch:

We’ll end things with a wild battle thanks to PunchDown slapfighting, and it was totally unexpected. I’m not even going to get into spoiler territory. See for yourself.

So that’s it for this week, kids. There’s too much badness in the world already, so please try to be nice. And remember – you might think you can fight, but there are plenty of guys like you all over the world.
